Change for Life
Changing the world one person, one step, one penny at a time.

In a time when there were no laws to protect battered women, my kids and I spent five years living in our car. My youngest, now 29, was born in the streets. There were no shelters for battered wives back then, in fact it wasn’t yet against the law for a man to beat his wife. So when I chose to leave my abuser and keep my children safe, after multiple broken bones, missing teeth and numerous other atrocities done to my body and my mind, I was the one breaking the law.

But I would do anything to protect my children. I took my kids out of that terrifying situation and ended up in one just as scary. I begged, I borrowed and I stole. I sold my blood, I sold my body and at times I sold my soul. I have been shot at, stabbed and beaten to within an inch of my life.

So I can tell you first hand what it’s like to be homeless. These are my roots. This is where I come from, and I know exactly what happens when you live in the streets. As scary as it was back in 1979, I had it made compared to the streets today. I can no longer sit by and do nothing.

On April 20, 2010, I began the 1863 mile walk from British Columbia to Mexico. Forty seven days, three states and 952 miles into this mission, plans changed.

Although I did the planning for this missions trip, God was the designer of the blueprints. Therefore in obedience to my calling, I will now be traveling through all 50 states in the effort to end homelessness. Sometimes I will drive. Mostly, I will walk, but either way, I am doing what God has asked of me, having faith that He will guide my path each step of the way.

To further to find out why I do this and how you can become a tributary in the fight to give everyone, no matter the circumstances, a roof over their heads, please read these web pages. It doesn’t have all the answers, but it is a guide.

I am just an average Joe. I don’t have any special talents, just the hootzpah to act on what I believe. I’m a former pastry chef, not a web designer and I did the best I could with what I had (Microsoft Publisher, so sorry to all you Apple users). There aren’t any fancy bells and whistles. There are no gizmos and gadgets for you to buy with our logo on it.

If you want to walk I would love to have you join me! You don’t need to register. Just email me and we’ll figure out where we can meet if I am in your area! Click on the state that you live in and find out where I will be, and when I will be there.

Click on the map below to see when we will be in your area.
